AWARDS

Crawford & Stearns has received numerous awards for its work since the firm was founded in 1979.  Representative examples include the following:

  • Pat Earle Award 2021: Presented by the Preservation Association of Central New York to the Howland Stone Store Museum in recognition of the successful completion of “Opendore: The Isabel Howland House” rehabilitation and restoration project in Sherwood, Cayuga County, New York.

  • New York State Historic Preservation Award 2019:  For outstanding adaptive reuse of the Bice House, Schoharie, New York and the successful use of historic tax credits.  Presented by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

  • Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2019:   For restoration and adaptive reuse of The Walton & Willett Stone Store - Cahill Landing, Oswego, New York. Presented by the Preservation League of New York State (PLNYS).

  • Historic Preservation Award 2019: Presented by the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier (PAST) to the First Ward Action Council for restoration and adaptive reuse of 47 North Street / Binghamton, New York.  Crawford & Stearns as preservation and design consultants.

  • The Harley J. McKee Award 2018: Presented for The Gustav Stickley House Restoration by the Preservation Association of CNY for excellence in the promotion and application of preservation technology and fine craftsmanship.

  • Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2017: For restoration and rehabilitation of Pickens Hall & Opera House, Heuvelton, New York. Presented by the Preservation League of New York State.

  • Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2016: For restoration and rehabilitation of The Babcock Shattuck House, Syracuse, New York. Presented by the Preservation League of New York State.

  • Preservation Merit Award 2016: For rehabilitation of The Huntley Apartment Building / Syracuse, NY.  Presented by the Preservation Association of CNY.

  • The Medal of the Onondaga Historical Association:  Presented to Crawford & Stearns “For Long Outstanding and Meritorious Service to Local History”  2015.

  • Preservation Merit Award 2015: For restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Courier Building / Syracuse, NY.  Presented by the Preservation Association of CNY.

  • Stewardship Award 2015: For restoration and rehabilitation of Grace Episcopal Church / Syracuse, NY following a fire in the Parish Hall in September 2013.  Presented by the Preservation Association of Central New York. 

  • New York State HCR Design Awards / 2014 Outstanding Rehabilitation:  For the historic Franklin Apartments, Watertown, NY.  Presented by the NYS Homes & Community Renewal. Also, the Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2011: Preservation League of NYS and the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards, May 2011: National Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition for most outstanding Low Income Housing projects.

  • New York State Historic Preservation Award 2013:  Rock Island Lighthouse State Park, Fisher’s Landing Thousand Islands, NY.  Presented by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

  • Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2013:  For rehabilitation of The TAUNY Center a former J.J. Newberry’s Store in Canton, NY, for use as a gallery, performance space, and offices. Presented by the Preservation League of New York State.

  • Pat Earle Memorial Award for 2013:  For preservation excellence in the stabilization and rehabilitation of the Village-owned historic Carpenter’s Barn in Cazenovia, NY.  Presented by the Preservation Association of CNY.

  • New York State HCR Design Award 2013:  For adaptive reuse of the historic Nichols Schoolhouse Apartments (the former Nichols High School), Nichols, NY.  Presented by the NYS Homes & Community Renewal. 

  • Excellence in Historic Preservation Award 2012:  For exterior restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Niagara Mohawk Building, Syracuse NY as architectural preservation consultants to Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt of Syracuse, NY.  Presented by the Preservation League of New York State. The Niagara Mohawk project was also presented a Preservation Association of Central New York “Pat Earle Memorial Award” in 2012.

  • Pat Earle Memorial Award for 2011: For restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Matilda Joslyn Gage House in Fayetteville, NY.  Presented by the Preservation Association of Central New York.

  • Preservation TLC Commendation 2011: The Homer Town Hall, Homer, NY.  Presented by the Preservation Association of Central New York.

  • Pat Earle Memorial Award for 2010:  For exterior restoration and rehabilitation of the historic 1907 Onondaga County Courthouse as architectural preservation consultants to Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt of Syracuse, NY.   Presented by the Preservation Association of CNY.
